As part of that commitment, we strive to ensure that our voice is represented on the public policy issues that affect our company, our industry, our employees and the communities we serve.
As a leader in the health care industry, we can and should be a leader in advocating our point of view in the political arena to help effect public policy solutions - the mission of our Federal and State Government Relations department. Aetna Government Relations identifies issues of importance to Aetna and then informs policymakers, Members of Congress and state officials to make sure that our point of view related to these issues is clearly understood. One of the tools we have to show support for legislators who share our views is our political action committee - Aetna PAC. Giving Employees a Political Voice Aetna PAC is a bipartisan political action committee, an organization that enables company employees to have a voice with legislators who make laws and policy that have a direct impact on the way the company does business. Its purpose is to collect voluntary contributions from eligible Aetna employees and then use these funds to support candidates for federal and state political office in accordance with applicable election laws. Aetna PAC Oversight and Supervision The Treasurer of Aetna PAC and the PAC Administrator are responsible for the day-to-day management of Aetna PAC. Subject to the oversight and supervision of the Aetna PAC Board of Directors, the officers of Aetna PAC are responsible for the solicitation of contributions and disbursement of funds consistent with state and federal laws. The Contributions Committee, composed of state and federal government relations personnel, considers a candidate's voting record, leadership position, committee assignment and other factors in making contribution decisions. Aetna PAC Membership Under the Federal Election Campaign Act, membership in a political action committee is limited to those employees who are:
